Ok, so what large essentials do you think we need in a new shop?
We already have... Large Drill Press Grinders 220 and 110 welders Plasma Cutter All the necessary Hand Tools
Will be buying a new 80 gal compressor and building a frame table...
Would love to find a nice bender or build one... anyone got plans for a Pro-one style bender?
What else am I missing?

Yeah, we already know that we are going to need a decent heater for the winter... it should not be too bad though... chopsaw and band saw will come in a little bit later -- unless we find a hell of a good deal, then I'll go ahead and find a way to get it. I'm looking a good set of plans... what dies does yours take... hat bender is it based off of... pics please

I am assuming that you are able to use the Pro 105 dies? www.pro-tools.com/105tdies.htm If not which dies does it use? What wall thickness do you think it'll handle max? I'm really looking for something that will handle 1 1/2 inch x 1/4 (max) thick tube for framework... Also, where did you purchase the plans for this bender, as I may run this route as well.

Yes the 105 dies, sorry about that..... I know for a fact that this design will do 1.25 x .1875 @ 45deg so I don't see why 1.5 at the same thickness would not work. You just have to get a die that will support .25....The guy that designed it states it will do .095 moly. I got them from www.gottrikes.com

Those are the ones I was looking at forever and a day... in fact, I have the same air hydro cylinder laying around here that you mentioned previously! www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94562Can you enlighten me as to what the upgrades are for the "B" style bender plans that he is offerring extra parts for on his page? www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htmAir/Hyd "Style B" set. Includes M, KB2, KB3 In stock ready to ship, $60 If they are worth it and difficult to find around here, I'll gladly buy from them... let me know.

Also. Hopefully Doug will reply to this, but is .25 wall the typical that you use on wishbones and suspension related parts for tubing?

The difference between the "A" & "B" benders is the bushings he is supplying in that kit for $60.00..... A style uses 1", 7/8" & 5/8" holes, the B style uses holes large enough to put the bushings in. I think it's 1 3/16", 1 1/16. I'll have to look at the plans tonight to verify that. Those bushings really need to be machined, He gives you dimensioned sheets for reference on those parts. I would have built it to use the bushings if he had been selling them when igot the plans 6mo ago. I may try and rebuild a few parts to accept the bushings. I have some 5/8" plate left from the original build....
I think wall thickness is really determined by application....

nice...congrats man...
Yeah, wall thickness is really determined by application. Honestly, I have never, and probably never, ever will use .25 wall tubing on anything...ever. It is total over kill, and a wast of money and adds weight for what we do. .188 wall for link bars is about as high as I will ever go, and even then, that's only if they've got bags mounted on them. .120 wall is more than enough for link bars and structural tubing members.
And for what it's worth, be carefull bending anything over .134 wall or so. It's not the dies or backing blocks that see dammage, it's the bender itself. I've got the pro-tools model 105, and tried to bend some .188 wall DOM in it, and the pin for the backing block and the 1/2" plate on the backing block mount are what get out of the way. The pin bent, and the holes for the pin egged out a bit, so that shows you where all the stress in the bends is.

Good deal.... I got on die on order from Keith @ pro-tools... should be here in a week or two..... congrats on the shop.....
Doug, I can see were that would happen on the 105, the pins are just cold rolled steel.... not the strongest. The plans for this bender use Thompson Bearing shafts.... and these things are nice

yeah, honestly, if the pins had been stronger, it would probably bend the thicker stuff just fine...the pin bending was the only reason the hole oblonged at all. Those bearing shafts should do you just fine..lol I'm planning on building an air over hydro setup for mine at some point....the manual is fine, but I'm getting old, and tired, and that shit is alot of work
